Simply Southern Cafe: Authentic Soul Food in Montgomery, AL

Not my first time visiting. Selections were great. I had Salisbury steak with dressing and broccoli cheese casserole. I also had the peach pie for dessert. Was not disappointed!

My husband an I was in Montgomery on 9/18/2025. I asked someone where's a good soul food restaurant they recommended Simply Southern. I had never heard of this place an had no idea where it was. We found it. I was amazed there was so many different flowers. The young lady who took our order her customer service was great! She was so up beat. My greedy spirit told me order fried chicken, collard, Mac an cheese an a side of green beans an yams. My husband got the same thing just not green beans and yams. That food was GREAT!!! Everything was seasoned just right.I haven't had food like that in years. I've gained 10lbs these last week an half eating this food. Bc we went back a week later on Fri an we was there this pass Sunday. Simply Southern Cafe keep doing what your doing. Don't change anything.

This is THE spot for a meat in three. They literally make some of the best food I’ve ever had. Collards, cornbread dressing, purple hull peas, meatloaf, fried chicken, ox tails, pot roast, and cabbage are some of the standouts for me. Worth the wait and money. Plenty of food for two meals in just one box. This place is worth the drive into Montgomery! I think they deserve a Michelin bib gourmand award. Truly a special gem in the capital city but also the south.

Food here is super local and delicious. Great prices too. Indoor seating if you so wish otherwise boxed to go. Definitely recommend. Mac and cheese was to die for

Just stopped by my first time here. The staff was friendly and greeted me when I walked in. The cabbage was real flavorful. The macaroni was cheesy, and the ribs was tendaaaa Definitely will be back. Almost forgot the cornbread was 10/10.

I love a good Soul Food spot, and this is one of them! One of the best in Montgomery, AL! I dined in for lunch one day an hour after they opened and found that they were already out of Yams! I got turkey & dressing, mac & cheese, lima beans, a corn muffin, and peach cobbler. Everything was on point EXCEPT the mac and cheese, which is weird cause theirs is always delicious without a question. It tasted like it came out the box, but they put it in the oven. There was barely a line, and the customer service was friendly as ALWAYS. The place was clean, and very festive!

We were here visiting from Sanford. FL. From Google review, my brother picked Simply Southern. I had the veggie plate meal of which all my sides were seasoned good, the dressing tasted good without meat ! Collard greens and cabbage flavored simply And I finally found a restaurant who makes peach cobbler tasty with good dough so that's a plus My aunt enjoyed her fried chicken of which smelled good my brother enjoyed his turkey meal. The yams are good but too sweet. The line says a lot, but they moved it fast as they could. Tasty food and not over seasoned. Simply good.

Montgomery Alabama Great start of the day with a great Southern meal with Simply Southern Cafe. A simple cafe run by people who loved to feed people with their good Southern food. It is cafeteria style run with set meals & prices attached. It appears that they have different meals each day. As you enter, the menu board reflects the daily specials of the day. We had oxtail stew with 3 sides. The stew was served on rice, for sides we had the green beans ( yummy), corn pudding (it was packed with corn & delicious), yam (it was cooked in brown sugar, quite sweet but oh soo.. yummy) served with corn bread or roll. We opted for the corn bread. We had the pork chop & fried chicken meal. The pork chop was coated with a dry rub & a light coating, you can taste garlic & onion taste to the fried pork chops. Their fried chicken was outstanding, crispy in the outside & so moist on the inside even chicken breast which is challenging to deep fry while keeping the inside moist. We also had Mac & Cheese as one of the sides, one of the best we had.. real cheddar cheese on the Mac. A most enjoyable Southern meal!
